For this comparison, each scope was mounted next to each other on a single tripod, observing NRA F Class Long Range targets at 1000 yards, through abundant mirage, clear blue skies, mild wind, with temperatures approaching 100°. NOTE: This is a comparison of the March Majesta Gen 1 vs Gen 2; while there’s mention of another manufacturer, this is not a comparison to their product, mention is made only to illustrate the opinions are of experienced competitors who use and are familiar with high quality optics.

Three of us participated in this subjective observation test. My goal, as I purchased the Gen 2s without first having opportunity to use them, is to offer information that may help you make a decision whether the Gen 2 is right for you.

Bill Fuchs:

F Open Competitor, and owner of two Gen 1, and two Gen 2.

“There is a subtle yet noticeable brightness and clarity difference at all magnification levels. I am particularly fond of the new writable turrets with how they are marked from the factory, how I can mark them to my satisfaction, and their tactile click feel. Of course, the reticle is still illuminated with the press of a button, no difference there, and that remains a key important feature I’m particularly fond of in low light conditions. No regrets about blindly spending the money to upgrade.”

Andy Cyr:

FTR Competitor, and owner of two Kahles 864, as such, he conducted his observation at 40X, being the magnification he shoots. “The Gen 2 is definitely brighter than the Gen 1” was his succinct observation.

Ben Belkin:

F Open Competitor, and owner of one Kahles 864 and also in possession and using one of Bill’s Gen 1s. Ben offers this thoughtful analysis, “In this single test, in a single environmental condition, my initial observations were the image clarity is 5% to 10% brighter on the Gen 2 along with a more satisfying click feel on the Gen 2’s writable turrets. I would say that if someone owns a Gen 1 and they’re happy with it they shouldn’t feel compelled to upgrade to a Gen 2. If someone is buying an 8-80 Majesta for the first time and their priority is to save some money, a used Gen 1 would be a great purchase. However if they want the latest and greatest, the higher performance offered in the Gen 2 will meet that criteria.”
